Tuesday evening Lions’ Den

This semester’s first Lions’ Den took place on Tuesday. It was a hard fought evening, with great presentations from all the groups. Congratulations to Nonopower who won our prestigious Lions’ Den cup for the best pitch and presentation on the evening.

The second Lions’ Den will take place tonight; with a hard act to follow from Tuesday night, I wish all the teams the best of luck.

The Discovery Challenge overall winners will be announced once all the Business Plans from both evening sessions have been judged. With the winning group to receive prize money of £1000, followed by £400 for second place, £200 for third and fourth place prize money of £150, the calibre of this semester’s business ideas have been high.

Results: Round 3 Discovery Challenge

The results have now been released for Round 3 of the Discovery Challenge Business Plan Competition. Well done to ‘Get MAID’ who have snatched that top position on the leader board. Remember the Lions’ Den is this week, and along with the written business plan accounts for 70% of the overall mark. So anything could happen to the leader board. With the first set of Lions’ Den presentations tonight, I wish good luck to all teams taking part.

Win £250 for a good idea

For DS3C we are running a competition to find the best new business idea to help reduce the human carbon footprint. There are five prizes of £250 to be won, one for the best business idea relating to each of the four themes: food and water, energy and transport, built environment and social enterprise, and for business ideas that don’t relate closely to any one of the above there is a special “general” category.

So, if you have thought of an innovative product (or service) that, if purchased and used by customers, will reduce their (or the community’s) carbon footprint then this is the competition for you. Find out more and download the competition entry form here.

The competition deadline is 6th November 2009 at 5pm so make sure you don’t miss out!

You can sign up to any DS3C event by going to the diary page or clicking here.
